Getting too old?

I had one of those getting-too-old-for-this-shit moments last week.

I went out to see the pioneers of melodic death metal, In Flames. They played a great show. But about half way through I got kicked in the back of the head by a crowd surfer, which caused me to sit out the rest of the show in the back with the toe-tappers. My fucking neck hurt for three days. I so hate to say it, but I fear the next show I go to, I'll be staying off the front floor.

Follow-up on GMail integrated chat client

Just following up on the post I made last week about gmail getting an integrated pure-html chat client for GTalk...

My account finally got updated with the goods sometime while I wasn't looking. First, I'd just like to mention that it is slick as shit! Very impressive stuff. It is completely functional and integrates bitchingly well into GMail. Its worth kicking around just to see the magic the google team have performmed.

However, there are a couple drawbacks:
1) Not a big deal for me, but if you want to do voice chat, then you have to stick with the classic GTalk client
2) No Safari support! WTF? When trying to use it in Apple's browser, the talk stuff looked as if it simply did not exist. I understand with the tricks they are doing that pulling it off will be on a browser-by-browser basis, but I do hope they can find some time to work Safari in.

But seriously, I could go on and on about this thing, but just check it out for yourself.

On the off chance that a human being is actually reading my blog....let me know if you need/want a gmail account.

Man Down

UGH! Just when I was getting all happy, getting back into my blog and whatnot, disaster struck. Long story short...due to no fault of my own, one of our most critical servers at work shit the bed. Those responsible for it couldn't bring it back up so it was left to our team. So we were working feverishly from Thursday at 7:00AM to Friday at 4:00PM. By that time I was the walking dead and went home to get some sleep. Came back Saturday all day, and finally got everything happy again. It really should not have been as difficult or time consuming as it was--just a tragic chain of events.

So anyways, since I had originally had Friday off, and was going to catch up on school work all weekend long, I know has Sunday alone to write some stuff for class Monday. It was not fun.

But whatever, like anyone cares. Sucks to be me and stuff :)
My point is just that its interesting balancing being a 3/4 full time English student and working IT. I kind of got strange glares while I was writing a poem in the datacenter while the server was getting rebuilt.

Whoa, anyways, this entry is officially too long and too boring.

And knowing is half the battle

This has got to be one of the funniest things I've seen lately...

Apparently, some people took it upon themselves to remix the public service announcements that all G.I. Joe cartoons used to end in. They range from utterly random to stupidly hilarious. My favorite would have to be the one with the big guy with the red beard. "Don't give him the stick!"

Gmail to get integrated chat

Ok, how cool is this? Google is integrating a Google Talk client right into gmail! No longer will a download, and the begging of your friendly network admin, be necessary! You can even save chats so they look just like gmail threads. Supposedly it will be rolled out to all existing gmail accounts over the next couple weeks.

I'm psyched.

Info from Google

1GB iPod Nano

Woot! Apple just introduced a 1GB iPod Nano, priced at $149 ($129 if you are a student of some sort). Also, the 512MB shuffle went down to $69 and the 1GB is now $99.

I think I may have to pick me up a Nano with the sweet student discount. Free shipping and laser inscribing to boot. I wonder what to engrave. Maybe "please don't let me get scratched" or "What? I can't hear you cuz I'm fucking deaf." Yeah, there we go.

1GB will get loaded up right quick though. So long as I can fit the entire In Flames library on it though I think I'm good to go. A nice complement to Satellite Radio :)

Don't worry about things you can't control.

What?

For anyone that cares...

By day, I am an information technology specialist for the Federal government. By night, I am an English student. Its a strange mix. My first go around at higher education some years ago eventually led me to my first IT job. When I decided to go back to finish my degree though, I quickly realized that I no longer (if ever) had a passion to study computer science. Half of it didn;t interest me in the slightest, and the other half was already familiar enough to me that it hardly seemed worthwhile.

So yeah, blah blah...anyways...Its kind of funny. People at work are like, "you are studying WHAT?" and people at school are like, "you do what for a living?" Its like I can't win. Further, since I had so many CS credits, I figured I'd go for a minor. English major, Computer Science minor. Apparently its not that common. When I was wrapping up the minor by taking a few advanced CS courses, people in them were like, "you are majoring in WHAT?"

Yeah. I need to find something more interesting to write about. I just thought some minor background information was in order, and it is something on my mind.

My blog. I get to be as boring as I want :P

Here we go again...

Ok, ok. I've decided to make regular updates to my blog. What does regular mean? I dunno. I guess more than once per year? Nah...I'm going for something like at least once per week.

I don't really have a theme or a point, so this is mostly masturbatory. I always stop and think to myself, "gee, I should like right that down or something." So now I'll try to follow through on that.

Or not? My last two attempts at starting this blog have failed miserably and I have no reason to think this one will fair any better, but whatever.

Here we go again...
